Crime figures for Medway at a click

14:43, 03 December 2008

Medway residents can now access crime figures for their area by using the Kent Police’s new website crime-mapping facility.

The force have launched a new section on their website, allowing people across the county to browse local crime figures at the touch of a button.

Visitors are able to immediately access crime figures for various types of offences, down to ward level.

The website provides interactive maps and drop down menus to ensure accessing the information is simple.

Annual figures for Medway, since October 2007 show that overall crime has continued to fall.

Chief Insp Martin Cunningham, said: “This new addition to our website means everyone can access up to-date crime figures whenever they want to.

“They can check crime levels in their own area, and get a better understanding of the reality of crime levels where they live.

“It has been designed to be user friendly and offer the type of information people living in Medway would like at their fingertips.

“This is an excellent tool and we would encourage people to use it to assess the work we have been doing in neighbourhoods.

“We hope it will also help people see the real crime levels which are often much lower than they think.”

The crime-mapping facility follows on from the Metropolitan Police’s launch of their own system.

Soon, all forces in the country will provide the same kind of facility on their websites.

The information will be updated monthly to ensure the most recent data can be found by people using the website.
