Cyclist dies after colliding with car door on Canal Road in Strood

A cyclist has died after colliding with the driver’s door of a car near a railway station.
The rider, a man in his 70s, was riding a black bike on Canal Road, Strood, towards the High Street when he was involved in a crash with a stationary red MG ZS.
Emergency services attended the incident, opposite the entrance of Strood Railway station, at around 11.20am on Tuesday (May 14).
Police had closed the road by The Boat House pub and were turning drivers around.
The cyclist, a man in his 70s, was flown to a London hospital with “life-threatening” injuries. He has since died.
Officers from Kent Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision, or saw the car or bike beforehand, to call the SCIU witness appeal line on 01622 798538 quoting XX/LW/049/24.
