A dad is desperate to find a lost ring containing his brother's ashes.

John Wills was walking from Roko gym in Gillingham to his home in Rainham when he dropped the precious jewellery.

The ring was a gift from his daughter Sharyn for his birthday just a few weeks ago. It contains the ashes of his brother Robert who died of liver cancer in 2006, aged 43.

John said: "I'm feeling absolutely gutted. The ring means so much to me, not just because it has my brother in it, but also because of the thought that went into getting it for me for my birthday.

"I was so touched when my daughter gave it to me."

John, who is also dad to son Finley, is registered blind and only has about 5% vision.

The 55-year-old was walking with his guide dog Quiz from the gym in Will Adam's Way last Friday at about 8.30am. He walked along the A2, on the opposite side of the road from the gym, towards his home in Gresham Close, in Rainham.

He said: "I usually don't wear it to the gym, as a ring can become mishapen if you are lifting weights. This particular day I was already in the gym when I realised I still had it on. I took it off and knotted it on to the drawstring of my shorts. I then I completely forget I had it on there."

John said he realised it was missing later that day.

He added: "I was in a panic then.

"I ransacked the house looking for it, it's not there. I have ripped the house to pieces looking for it.

"The gym have looked for it, it is not there either. So it must have come off when I was walking home."

The ring, made by a company called AshTech by Luce, is black and silver with grey flecks which contain the ashes.

John said: "The ring isn't really worth anything in terms of money value, but it means so much to me."
