Dad Lee Terry claims police are ignoring plea for justice

00:01, 17 September 2017

A dad-of-two, who claims his arm was broken while being thrown out of a pub, has protested outside Medway police station.

Lee Terry, 37, along with his wife and two children held up signs outside the station recently to highlight his case, that he claims police have ignored.

Mr Terry had to have metal pins and plates inserted in his arm after an incident at the Jolly Knight in Rochester in November 2015.

A 51-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault but later released without charge because police said there was insufficient evidence.

Kent Police’s Professional Standards Department has carried out a review of the case following a complaint by Mr Terry but also concluded there was insufficient evidence.

Mr Terry said he was out drinking with his wife Alyson, his cousin Amy and her friends, when they were told to leave the pub as it was closing.

He insisted he would finish his drink and leave, but claims a bouncer did not give him the chance.

He said: “I had about a mouthful left. There were people behind me with full pints.”

The bricklayer, from Rainham, claims that he was then thrown outside and repeatedly punched and kicked by the door staff.

He alleged: “I had just gone for a nice night with my wife and it ended up in four bouncers beating me up so badly.”

He suffered a broken arm, broken rib, fractured eye socket and multiple cuts and grazes.

Now, almost two years later Mr Terry said he is fed up of police ignoring his plea for justice and wants something to be done.

He said: “I have done everything, explored every option but still nobody is listening and nobody cares.

“I did nothing wrong that night and yet I’m the one suffering because of it, the police just keep ignoring me and I hope this will get their attention.”

Mr Terry wants to see CCTV footage recorded in the High Street but he claims police have refused. He believes the footage shows how his arm was broken.

A police spokesman said: “On Sunday, November 22, 2015 Kent Police was called to a reported altercation at a public house in High Street, Rochester.

"Officers completed a thorough investigation and a 51-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault but later released without charge due to insufficient evidence.”

“Kent Police’s Professional Standards Department subsequently received a complaint regarding the outcome of the investigation.

“A review was carried out and also determined there was insufficient evidence in the case to charge. The complainant was updated with the review’s outcome.”

The Jolly Knight was approached for a comment but didn’t respond before going to press.
