A ewe-nique larger than life pink sheep will be popping up in London, designed by Medway fashion legend Zandra Rhodes.

Dame Zandra, who was born in Chatham, is one of 50 well-known names who has helped create a flock of huge Shaun the Sheep sculptures for a Shaun in the City art trail.

The 74-year-old, who is known for her vibrant pink hair, has designed a bright fuchsia Shaun which she has named Woolly Wiggle, featuring a distinctive gold Zandra Rhodes wiggle pattern.

She said: “I felt my design had to be iconic and I’m a designer known for my patterns which are very wiggly so Woolly Wiggle came about by putting lovely wiggles all over the whole sheep so it looks like his wiggly fur, and then there’s an amazing top knot on his head which is a different type of wiggle.”

During the eight-week trail, which follows the box office hit Shaun the Sheep: The Movie, the 5ft tall sheep will be dotted around the capital – at popular tourist spots and iconic landmarks.

Dame Zandra’s creation will be at One New Change shopping centre near St Paul’s Cathedral.

The London trail will run from Saturday, March 28 until Monday, May 25. There will also be a trail of another 70 sculptures in Bristol from July 6.

Following both events, all 120 Shauns will be sold at auction in October, raising money for the Wallace & Gromit Children’s Foundation, which supports sick children in hospitals throughout the UK.

With less than a month until her art work is unveiled, Dame Zandra said: “I can’t wait to see my Shaun out in the wild in London, I think it’s going to be absolutely fabulous and now I’ve seen how big he is, no one is going to miss him.

“I am also very excited to see how much money my sculpture raises at auction.”

Nick Park, creator of Shaun the Sheep, said: “It’s been a busy year for Shaun, he has just launched his first movie and now he has his very own arts trail.

“Shaun is such a well-loved character with so many fans around the globe, I am sure many will flock to London to be part of the fun.”
