A mum has told of her horror after a driver smashed into her car and then sped off leaving her eight-year-old daughter in “hysterics”.
Joanna Long was driving along a road in Strood when a red Ford Fiesta slammed into the side of her vehicle without stopping to see if she and eight-year-old Chloe were injured.
The crash in Fulmar Road left Joanna, a 38-year-old single mum, too shaken to drive home for two days.
Instead, she stayed with a friend in Strood before returning to her home in Southend, Essex.
Joanna said: “I was very shaken and my daughter, who was in the back, was in hysterics.
“I could not believe he drove off and continued only stopping to get out and to see if his car was alright.”
Joanna, a porter at Southend University Hospital, got dash cam footage of the collision which happened at about 5.15pm last Friday (January 26), but she did not get the number plate.
The video shows the moment the red vehicle pulls out and hits Joanna's car on the side before driving off.
She has since had to pay out £600 for repairs and is determined to track down the runaway motorist so she can claim on insurance.
She said: “I feel angry and very frustrated that somebody could have done this.
“Thankfully neither of us was hurt.”
A police spokesman said: “Kent Police received a report of a collision involving two cars in Fulmar Road, Strood, at 5.25pm on January 26.
“It is alleged one of the drivers did not stop at the scene to provide details to the other party and no injuries were reported.
“The person who called the police did not have identification details for the vehicle that had left the scene and was advised to contact Kent Police online to report the incident.”
