A cocaine dealer who was caught in Medway hiding the drug inside a tub of sweets has been locked up.

Cyril Jack, 30, has been jailed for 30 months after police stopped a vehicle he was driving in near the Wainscott bypass and found his haul.

Jack, pictured, was stopped last month and pleaded guilty to possessing cocaine with intent to supply and three driving offences, taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance, at Woolwich Crown Court.

The court heard how Jack, of Raleigh Close in Erith, was arrested on Wednesday, February 8, when he was at the wheel of a Mercedes Vito.

The stop was made after officers received intelligence the vehicle may be involved in supplying drugs and Jack initially tried to run across the dual carriageway to avoid being arrested but was detained before he was able to get away.

A search of his vehicle then found the tub of sweets where seven zip bags containing cocaine were found.

When he arrived at Medway police station in Gillingham Jack was searched and 81 grams of Class A drugs were found in his underwear.

Officers also found that the Mercedes he was Jack was driving had been hired since December 2016, but he was not mentioned on the rental agreement.

The investigation was conducted under Kent Police’s anti-gangs initiative Operation Jupiter, a strategy designed to tackle emerging criminal gangs, whose members often travel into Medway from other areas, to sell drugs.

DC Stuart Clayton, the investigating officer for this case, said: “This is another positive result from Operation Jupiter which is continuing to target emerging criminal gangs.

“These gangs have members who travel into our county from other areas, such as London, to commit crime – particularly selling illegal drugs.

“This is something that we take a dim view on and, as this case shows, we proactively target and bring swift justice to people who we suspect are involved in these crimes.”
