Delays on the M2 have now cleared after a trailer overturned.
Traffic was slow due to the accident on the coastbound carriageway between Junction 3 for the A229 at Chatham and Junction 4 for the A278 at Gillingham.
Lanes one and two were blocked until around 2.30pm, causing tailbacks.
Highways England has tweeted: "2 lanes closed coastbound btwn J3 and J4 nr #Chatham. We're working with @kentpoliceroads at an overturned trailer. Expect delay."
Motorist Bradley Guichard took this picture of vehicles at a standstill.
Traffic is now flowing normally.
A police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called at 1.16pm on Tuesday 6 September to a report of a collision between junction three and four on the coast bound carriageway of the M2 where it was reported a car towing a trailer was involved in a collision.
"Officers attended along with SECAMB, KFRS and Highways England.
"Two lane closures were put into place while recovery work took place and roads were reopened by around 2.30pm. No injuries are believed to have been reported at the time."
