A road has now reopened after a two car crash on the Northen Link Road.
Motorists earlier faced delays as they drove through the Medway Tunnel from Strood to Gillingham this afternoon.
People travelling in the area reported traffic built up on the Gillingham bound side of the A289 Pier Road section of the road.
The queues were a result of two car crash shortly after 1pm.
No one was seriously injured during the collision and the speed limit in the tunnel was reduced to 30mph.
Levi @TheAlonsoRole tweeted a picture of traffic queuing as he was exiting the tunnel and said a police car had just driving along the road towards the incident.
A spokesman for Kent Police said: "Officers became aware of a two-car collision on Pier Road, Gillingham, shortly after 1.05pm.
"They attended the scene and closed the road to allow for the vehicles to be recovered.
"No injuries have been reported and the closure remains in place."
The road was fully reopened by 2.20pm.
The incident is not causing delays for people heading to the Medway In Flames event being held at Chatham Maritime today.
Thousands are enjoying the Battle of Medway finale.
