Firefighters had to rescue a person from a vehicle after an accident on the London-bound M2.
It happened at the top of Blue Bell Hil near Junction 3 for the Chatham and Rochester turn-off at about 5.30pm.
The inside two lanes were closed by police as fire crews used hydraulic cutting equipment to remove the roof from a vehicle where a casualty was trapped.
A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service said they were then passed into the care of the ambulance service.
There were long delays while the emergency services worked at the scene but it was clear by 6.30pm, although the congestion took a bit longer to ease.
