A DJ has raised £9,000 for charity through online sets via social media using only his phone, an iPod, and an Amazon Alexa.

Steve Parish wanted to find a way to raise funds for Medway Hospital Charity through virtual sets during lockdown.

The Lordswood DJ was prompted by the Clap for Carers during the first lockdown to start doing DJ sets online.

When the DJ nights took Facebook by storm, he realised it could become something special by using just his personal tech devices.

Steve said: "Over the last two years the DJ nights have become more popular.

"I really enjoy entertaining people and making special guest appearances, all to help raise money for our local NHS. I have even built a new studio in my garden."

Steve and his friend Neil Diamond recently met with Medway NHS Foundation Trust chief executive, Jayne Black, to present the cheque.

Neil, who set up the GoFundMe page to raise the money, said: "We originally set a goal of £1,000 to reach but the amount Steve actually raised was phenomenal - more than £9,000 for the NHS.

"Steve is honestly one of the most loving and caring people you could ever meet."

Jayne added: "I am inspired by Steve’s dedication in helping to raise money for the hospital. We are very grateful to him. Every penny raised goes towards supporting our patients and staff in a wide variety of ways.”

Steve’s fundraising efforts earned him a nomination in the Charity Fundraiser category at the Pride of Medway Awards 2022.
