Firefighters have reiterated the importance of having a working smoke alarm after it saved the life of a Chatham man.
Crews were called to Steddys Court, in Bryant Street, Chatham, after the man fell asleep while cooking.
He was woken by firefighters at around 12.30am after a neighbour heard the alarm.
A Kent Fire and Rescue service spokesman said: "The man was breathing in dangerous fumes and hadn't been woken himself by the sound of the alarm. We were alerted by a neighbour.
"The fire alarm helped save his life."
