Two fire engines were sent to a kebab shop fire in Twydall.
Huge clouds of smoke were seen coming out of the back of the Tasty Fish Bar in Twydall Green.
Firefighters were called at 2.27pm to deal with the blaze on the ground floor of the three-storey building.
It is believed to have been caused by an overheated fryer and crews left the scene just after 3pm.
Witnesses said firefighters were joined by six police cars and the road was cordoned off while officers carried out enquiries.
A police spokesman said: "Officers are currently in attendance and are providing assistance to crews from Kent Fire and Rescue Service.
"At present no injuries have been reported, however, a road closure has been enforced to ensure public safety.
Arriva has diverted two of its services.
The 182 will go up Ito Way to the A2, turn left towards Rainham and left along Twydall Lane before carrying on the normal route.
