Kitchen fire at home in Marley Way, Rochester may have been caused by a toaster

Firefighters have tackled a blaze in a kitchen at a home in Rochester this morning.
Crews were called out to deal with the fire, which started in the kitchen at the back of the property in Marley Way at about 10.15am.
The fire was discovered by a passer-by who dialled 999 when they spotted black smoke billowing from a rear window.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the property to put out the flames and then used a large powerful fan to clear the home of smoke.

It is understood the kitchen of the house has been totally destroyed by the heat and smoke and the rest of the house has suffered substantial smoke damage.
It is believed the fire may have started in a toaster.
Crews from Strood and Medway had put out the flames by 11.10am.
