Firefighters were called out to put out a fire in an archway under the railway in Strood during the early hours of this morning.
A crew from Strood were called out to Canal Road, at about 5.50am where they found a chair and a mattress inside the arch were alight.
It is thought a homeless person had been living under the bridge as firefighters found evidence someone had been staying there.
However, no one was in the arch when firefighters arrived on the scene.
A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service, said: “Everything inside the arch was totally destroyed by the flames, which had been started deliberately.
"It took us about 20 minutes to put out the flames and we informed Network Rail about the fire.”
