A road has been closed after a fire ripped through a house covered in scaffolding.
Six fire engines were called to a property Grange Road in Gillingham during the early hours of this morning.
The road has been closed between Woodlands Road and Hazlemere Drive.
A fire service spokesperson confirmed crews were called to the scene at 1.48am and left at 5.28am.
They said: “At the height of the incident, six fire engines were in attendance as well a height vehicle.
“Crews wearing breathing apparatus used main jets and a fog spike to extinguish the fire.
“There are no reported injuries. ”
Firefighters are still at the scene to check for hotspots and the cause is still under investigation.
The building has Ledd Scaffolding equipment attached to it - the scaffolding supplier has been contacted for comment.
One witness said the property was empty when the blaze began.
Alyssa Maurissa, who watched the fire unfold, added: “I actually thought it was kids letting off fireworks in the street.
“You could hear loud pops and bangs for a few minutes.
“Then I heard the sirens and looked out the curtain and everything was just orange.
“I’d never actually seen a house fire in real life like that before. I’m still absolutely shocked how fast it was destroyed.
“I grabbed my sister and ran outside before the fire trucks even started working, by the time they did, everything had disintegrated.
“At first we were panicking if there were people in there, kids, animals etc.
“But there were no ambulances or anything and everyone in the street started coming out in their slippers and whatnot.
“Then a few people told me the house was empty, it just shocked everyone a little bit.”
The South East Coast Ambulance Service confirmed no injuries were reported and so paramedics were not in attendance.
