Firefighters were called to a flat in Parkwood, Rainham, last night after a pan caught alight.
The pan had been left on the stove in a kitchen of a ground floor property in Ferrier Close.
The fire was already out when crews arrived just before 10pm but two adults and two children had to be treated for smoke inhalation.
A spokesman from Medway fire station said: "When we got there the fire was out. The smoke alarm made them aware that there was a fire in the kitchen."
The four casualties were left in the care of the paramedics.
