Firefighters have freed a man trapped in his car.

Crews were called to Cuxton Road, Cuxton, just after 5pm following a two-car crash.

The man in his 40s was being treated by an off-duty paramedic when firefighters arrived.

Crews stabilised the vehicle before using hydraulic cutting equipment to remove the roof.

He was taken out using a spinal board and passed to ambulance crews.
