Fire crews rescue Kiki the pug from a well in Meresborough Road, Rainham

Fire crews used dog treats to rescue a pug stuck down a cavernous well.

Kiki the canine was found trapped at the bottom of a 40 metre deep well in a back garden.

Fire crews attended the home in Meresborough Road, Rainham just before 8pm yesterday.

They lowered a kit bag filled with treats into the well with ropes.

This coaxed three-year-old Kiki into the bag and the fire crews carefully pulled her back up.

She did not appear to have any injuries and was handed into the care of her owners, who planned to take her to the vet to get checked over.
