Firefighters tackle chip fire and warn residents to check their smoke alarms

09:00, 05 February 2018

Kent Fire and Rescue Service were called to a property in Wall Close, Hoo, Rochester yesterday after a chip pan caught fire.

Fire services received the call at 6:16pm, and required the use of breathing apparatus and a fire blanket to extinguish the fire after a neighbour informed firemen of the fire.

A ventilation fan was used to clear smoke after the pan was removed, and oxygen therapy was administered to a woman in the property suffering from smoke inhalation.

Fire crews installed two new smoke detectors in the property, with the originals not working.

KFRS have warned residents about the danger of not having working fire alarms, and suggested they be tested weekly.
