Three people suffer smoke inhalation after tumble dryer sparks blaze in Strood flat
21:11, 03 June 2024
Four fire crews were called to a blaze in a flat this afternoon.
The call to the property in Cuxton Road, Strood, came in at 4.20pm.
Crews wearing breathing apparatus tackled the flames with hose reel jets and then used a high-pressured ventilation fan to clear the property of smoke.
Three people were treated by SECamb medics at the scene for smoke inhalation.
It is believed the fire started in a tumble dryer.
Firefighters were able to leave the scene at 5.40pm.
Kent Fire and Rescue has since warned people about tumble dryer use.
A spokesman said: “Before using a tumble dryer or any similar appliance, such as a dishwasher or washing machine, make sure they are good working order and maintained as instructed in the manufacturer’s guidelines.
“Only run cycles when you’re home and awake and remember to have a working smoke alarm on each floor of your property.”
