Flood warning issued for Tidal Medway, the Medway estuary and the Isle of Grain

Flood warnings have been issued to communities across Medway.

The areas affected in the afternoon will be Tidal Medway, Medway estuary and Isle of Grain, with the highest tide level expected at 2.30pm today.

A statement from the Environment Agency said: "This flood alert has been issued due to the high tide forecast for March 12, 2020.

"The highest tide level is expected to be at 2:30pm on Thursday. Flooding is possible two hours either side of this time.

"Areas of concern include Canal Road, Strood and Upnor.

"We don't expect property flooding.

"Our incident response staff are checking our defences and structures, and are prepared to respond if required.

"Please be careful along beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads, as large waves and sea spray could be dangerous.

"We are expecting higher than normal tides over the next three days and may be issuing further messages during this time."

A further update is expected at 6pm today.
