A statement from Medway Council said: "Following the sad news of the death of Her Majesty The Queen, the Medway Food and Drink Festival, which was due to be held in Rochester Castle Gardens between Friday, 16 and Sunday, Sepember 18 has been postponed.

’Rochester Castle Gardens is being used as the formal place for the public to lay flowers, which will remain in place until the day after Her Majesty’s funeral.

"We apologise for any disappointment this may cause."

The three-day extravaganza has been billed as showcasing "the best of local, national and international food and drink".

There will be a variety of stalls with not just food but also jewellery, homeware and handmade crafts.

And for the younger visitors, a magician, music and games are planned.

Events tailored just for adults are on the evening line-up, including live music and comedy.

A new date for the event is yet to be announced.

The statement added: "Ticket holders will be contacted directly and will be given the option to transfer the tickets to the new date, which will be confirmed in due course."

The Castle Gardens was used on Sunday as the location of Medway’s proclamation of the accession of King Charles III to the throne.
