Foodies must go to this hidden gem in the heart of Medway's countryside.

The Powder and Magazine restaurant is situated in a renovated army building on Upnor Road, Lower Upnor.

The site is rumoured to have stored Britain's first H-bomb during the 1960s and the food flavours at the eatery are explosive too.

The restaurant has a certificate of excellence from Trip Advisor it is highly recommended.

The chef source all ingredients within 30 mile radius, with the meat from nearby butchers and gin supplied from across the River Medway from the Copper Rivet Distillery in Chatham Dockyard.

There is plenty of ambience and history within the building as many of structures still in place from the buildings days as an artillery stronghold in the 1800s.

There are more local touches throughout the restaurant with mini stalls selling wooden household items made by retired carpenter Eric Vine, 70, who lives in the village.

Multiple events have been planned in the coming months including a special night for people with food allergies or intolerances called Happy Tummy evening on Thursday, July 19.

And on Sunday, July 8, Violet Jive will be playing live music during Sunday lunch.
