Work to install a new footbridge at Chatham Railway Station as part of a multi-million pound refurbishment has started.
Today the old bridge connecting the platforms was removed with a new one set to replace it as part of the Access for All scheme.
The initiative is designed to provide step-free access for the first time making it easier for wheelchair and pram users as well as passengers with mobility issues.
The contract is being carried out by Network Rail and the overall revamp is due to be finished in May next year.
Other improvements include resurfacing platforms and drainage works.
Lifts will connect the already upgraded ticket office and the two platforms.
Existing walking routes through the station have temporarily been changed and part of the car park has been closed while work continues into tomorrow.
A major regeneration project to breathe new life into previously run-down areas near the station started at the end of 2018.
The aim has been to create clearer links between the station, Chatham town centre and the bus station.
It forms part of Medway Council's Chatham Placemaking initiative which has come about after the authority secured £700,000 from the government's Local Growth Fund.
The wider picture has seen upgrades to the New Cut junction, St John's Square, Military Square and Military Road.
Also over the Bank Holiday weekend, Network Rail is carrying out earthworks from Ashford to Hastings and Folkestone to Dover Priory as well as testing new signalling at Gillingham.
Resignalling work is taking place between Hither Green and Chislehurst.
