Buses on diversion while two week junction improvement works take place along Main Road, Hoo
16:33, 18 October 2024
Motorists and bus users have been told to expect “short-term frustration” while “much-needed works” take place to improve a busy road junction.
During the closure of a section of Main Road, Hoo, buses will not serve the road for two weeks.
Instead, services will be diverted via the A228, and Bells Lane, around the Knights Road loop and down to Hoo Marina.
Temporary bus stops will be provided on Bells Lane in the vicinity of the vicinity of Flack Gardens.
The project to resurface and improve the section of road starts on Monday (October 21) and will involve creating a pedestrian crossing and lowering the raised junction at Herdsdown.
There will also be resurfacing and new ramps to lessen the impact of vehicles, reduce road noise, and bring it in line with current standards for raised junctions.
The work is expected to take place over two weeks, weather permitting, with Main Road closed at the junction with Herdsdown for the duration of the work.
A diversion will be in place from Main Road to Bells Lane, and Ratcliffe Highway.
Vehicle access for residents of Main Road west of Herdsdown will be via Main Road throughout the works.
Medway Council says disruption will be kept to a minimum, as far as practically possible, and apologised in advance for any inconvenience the works may cause. Click here to find out more.
Cllr Alex Paterson, Portfolio Holder for Community Safety, Highways and Enforcement, said: “This is a much-needed project to help improve the junction between Main Road and Herdsdown, and will be welcomed by residents and road-users alike.
“We recognise there may be some short-term frustration caused by the road closure, but this will be outweighed by the long-term benefit of the work, and we will aim to keep disruption to a minimum.”
