Designer children’s clothes worth about £15,000 have been stolen from a boutique.

A thief broke into Skye Rose in Rochester High Street overnight on Wednesday, September 11, and made off with a stash of more than 100 top-of-the range label items.

The break-in has left owner Sophie Lacy devastated and prompted her to post on Facebook that the “scumbag” has “wiped her out”.

The mum-of-two said the thief had clearly targeted her top Italian range of Bimbalo outfits which can sell for in excess of £100.

The 35-year-old said other brands such as Granlei from Spain were also taken.

Mrs Lacy, who opened her first shop in Tollgate Lane, Strood, six years, only set up business in the town a year ago.

She said: “The business is really going well. We have had to pay out a lot to refit the listed building, but I was just beginning to think I can start to relax. This is a real kick in the teeth.

“I believe from CCTV footage that he went into a hardware shop in the High Street the same day and bought a crowbar, gloves and black sacks. He was seen outside the shop several times during the day.”

Mrs Lacy, who is mum to Fleur-Rose, eight, and Ophelia-May, three, arrived at the boutique on Thursday morning to discover the back door had been kicked in and clothes were strewn over the floor.

She started the business after she was unable to buy the clothes she wanted for her daughters in this area.

She said: “While we have some expensive items that sell in Harrods, we also have clothes priced from £10. He clearly knew what he was looking for.”

The main brand Bimbalo, sold in Harrods. Coats and dresses, which can cost hundreds of pounds, have been snatched.

Sophie is hoping that somebody might recognise the labels which also included Pretty Originals and Granlei.

Police spokesman Natalie Hardy said: “We are investigating a report of burglary at a shop in Rochester High Street.

“The premises, near to the junction with Corporation Street, was broken into between 3pm on Wednesday September 11, and 9am on Thursday, September 12, where items of clothing were reported stolen.

“Any witnesses or anyone with information should call Kent Police on 01634 792209 quoting reference 46/176351/19.”
