Armed burglars jailed after forcing their way into a home

Two burglars have been jailed for more than 14 years after forcing their way into a home armed with weapons.
Tyrone Brown, 33, and Derek Robb, 51, targeted an address in the Woodlands Road area of Gillingham in the early hours of January 2018.
The court heard Robb shouted and attacked the front door until the victim, a woman in her 50s, opened a nearby window. Then Brown appeared, pulled the window ajar and attempted to climb through.
Brown began attacking the victim with a baton as he entered, hitting her on the head, chest, and arms, while shouting at Robb to break down the front door.
The victim continued to struggle with Brown, stopping him from entering the home.
Ultimately, with the help of her daughter, aged in her 20s, and a wooden trunk the victim used as battering ram, Brown was pushed back outside.
The daughter also suffered injuries after being hit by the baton.
The two men then left. Officers searched the area and found the duo. They were arrested after a short foot chase.
The baton was found near the victim’s home.
Both were sentenced at Maidstone Crown Court on Tuesday.
Brown, of Balmoral Road in Gillingham, was jailed for seven years and four months after pleading guilty to aggravated burglary and possessing an offensive weapon.
Robb, of Garden Street in Gillingham, was jailed for seven years after pleading guilty to aggravated burglary.
Investigating officer DC Taylar Pronger said: ‘Brown and Robb attended the home armed with weapons and showed no reluctance in trying to force entry to the property.
"While doing so, both men showed an alarming lack of restraint with Brown repeatedly assaulting the victim and her daughter with the baton, while Robb attempted to break down the front door.
"I hope the quick arrests of both men, and their lengthy sentences, offer some comfort and reassurance to both the victims and the wider community."
