A well-respected GP has been moved out of intensive care three weeks after a freak accident which claimed the life of his doctor wife.
Dr Chau Ming Shum remains in a serious condition at a hospital in Granada, southern Spain.
The 57-year-old, a partner at the Walderslade Village Surgery in Medway, was injured on November 13.
It is understood someone rolled back into the couple's van when it was on an underground car park ramp.
Mrs Shum, who was also a doctor and in her 50s, was tragically trapped under the wheels.
Dr Shum – a father of two sons – has been with the practice since 1994 and took on a role training doctors in 2006.
He specialises in treating diabetes, heart disease and hypertension. He also has skills in IT and clinical audit.
He completed his medical degree at St George's Hospital, London, and as an interest in research – playing a major part in promoting the role of minor illness nurses and nurse practitioners.
In his spare time he keeps fit by running and going to the gym, ready for his regular ski trip in the winter.
A notice posted on the surgery's Facebook said: "A GP partner at Reach Healthcare has been involved in a tragic accident.
"We are not in a position to share further details but would ask for patience with our staff during this difficult time."
