Armed police were called to a residential street after receiving reports of a man in possession of a gun – which turned out to be a bong.
Officers were called to Darnley Road in Strood, at around 10.10am on Thursday.
A spokesman for the force added: “Armed patrols attended and located an 18-year-old man nearby who was arrested in connection with the incident.
“He was unarmed and a subsequent search of the residential address resulted in the discovery of an imitation firearm.
“The man was later released without charge.”
Footage emerged of the incident online, showing a man and woman, being stopped by the police and told to put their hands in the air.
The woman in the video later claimed it was her ‘gun-shaped bong’ that had been seized.
