Freedom of Medway Parade to take place along Rochester High Street
09:09, 17 September 2023
The Corps of Royal Engineers returns today for its Freedom of Medway Parade.
It will take place at 12.30pm and will follow the Corps Memorial Service at Rochester Cathedral.
The event is being livestreamed for the first time on the Corps Facebook and YouTube Channels.
Royal Engineers from 1 Royal School of Military Engineering (RSME), The Nottinghamshire Band of the Royal Engineers, Cadets from Gads Hill School and members of the Royal Engineers Association will parade down Rochester High Street.
A salute will be taken by the Lord Lieutenant of Kent Lady Colgrain.
The Royal Engineers' connection to Medway with a freedom parade has been celebrated in Rochester for many years.
They were awarded the Freedom of Gillingham 70 years ago in 1953.
No parade was possible last year, following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
Members of the public are encouraged to watch the parade today.
