Holcombe’s hopes of being crowned East Women’s League Premier Division champions took a major blow on Saturday.
A 2-1 defeat at Canterbury 2nds leaves Holcombe sitting fourth and five points behind the weekend’s victors, who sit top of the pile.
Carmel Sutton got Holcombe’s only goal of the match at Polo Farm.
With just three games left Holcombe’s chances of making up the ground on Canterbury, who have two left to play, are now unlikely.
Dereham second and third placed Maidstone are now in with a shout of taking the title in a four-way scrap for honours.
