Hollywood A-lister Tom Cruise is believed to have flown into the county today to film his latest movie.

It's understood the Top Gun star arrived in Chatham by helicopter around 4.30pm before being taken to the nearby historic Dockyard.

As reported earlier today by KentOnline, the tourist attraction is being used for the filming of a major production.

The private helicopter was seen over the river next to the Medway City Estate in Strood before it landed in front of the council's Gun Wharf headquarters. It travelled from a heliport in central London.

Details on what the movie is and whether it is connected to filming at Sheppey's Kingsferry Bridge have not been forthcoming.

Visitors to the dockyard at the weekend noticed a giant lighting rig being put in place.

The venue has been home to many film crews over the years, shooting scenes for Netflix's Bridgerton, the musical Les Miserables starring Russell Crowe, and both Sherlock Holmes movies featuring Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law.

The hit BBC TV show Call the Midwife is also filmed there.

Coloured lights have been set up inside the Victorian ropery, positioned to shine out of the windows.

The lighting rig is near the entrance to the ropery building where a walk-way had been cordoned off.

It was reported in the summer how Cruise was in London filming Mission: Impossible 8.

Filming took place inside Westminster Abbey.
