Homes were evacuated after a bomb disposal unit was called to a "suspicious object" found in a house.
Police were called at about 4pm to reports of the discovery at a property in Severn Road, Chatham.
Police and fire crews were sent and to ensure safety, a neighbouring home was also evacuated and a cordon was put in place.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service was also called to assist police.
