Road works cause 'horrendous' traffic problems in Rainham

Motorists have been faced with long delays over the past week.
Part of the Lower Rainham Road, Rainham, was closed for SGN, which maintains and supplies gas for the area, to carry out essential repairs to underground networks.
A lane has also been closed on the Berwick Way roundabout in Wainscott to inspect highway drainage, which is due to finish today.
Temporary traffic lights were put in place yesterday in Anthony's Way by UKPN to enable emergency works to be carried out.
The closure on the Lower Rainham Road forced commuters to filter onto London Road, which is also undergoing maintenance work. Rainham Road has since been reopened.
Put up traffic lights on the A2 stretch near Edwin Road have added to the problems facing drivers during school pick-up and drop-off time.
One parent said: "The traffic has been horrendous. A journey that normally takes 10 minutes at most is taking at least half an hour.
"If part of the Lower Rainham Road has to close, the only alternative is to use the A2 and to have roadworks there at the same time is really frustrating.
"I'm not sure if they've been planned to happen at the same time, but if they have then that's just madness.
"It makes for a really stressful start to the day. And seeing as the children have just had two weeks off, you question as to whether the work could have been done in that time instead."
Medway Council has been approached for more information.
