Plans for a hotel in Chatham High Street geared for Chinese tourists have been delayed.

Kevin Shen, who owns the Cosmo Chinese buffet at the junction with Manor Road, originally hoped to have permission by this month.

Mr Shen, 32, previously said his £500,000 conversion of 43 rooms above the restaurant was being promoted by Chinese travel agents.

But the plans were withdrawn to be updated and have only been re-submitted this month, delaying when work can begin.

Andrew Kong, a manager at Cosmo, said: “We’ve had people lined up, standing ready to do the work but who couldn’t start.

“It’s minor details that keep bouncing back and forth. Our architect has had several meetings with Kevin and it’s still going somewhat according to plan. The hotel is definitely going ahead.”

Just weeks ago, the remains of the former Theatre Royal across the street won permission to become cafes, restaurants, bars and flats.
