Arson investigation at house on Isle of Grain as police call for witnesses

Detectives are calling for witnesses after a devastating fire destroyed a house.

Arsonists are believed to be behind the blaze on the Isle of Grain which severely damaged the home after a van was torched at the weekend.

Police were outside the property in St James Close yesterday carrying out inquiries following the fire on Saturday night.

Officers are now appealing for help to track down the culprits who are believed to have deliberately set a vehicle alight and flames spread to the building.

Nobody was injured during the fire at 9.30pm but it caused extensive damage to the property.

Police spokesman Martin Very said: "Investigators are asking anyone who was in the area at the time and saw anything suspicious or unusual to call police."

Two fire engines were initially sent to the scene with two more sent after the fire service received more calls about the incident.
