Highways England has confirmed huge delays on the M2 tonight are due to issues with traffic lights.
Drivers say problems began yesterday, and is thought to be related to traffic light sequencing at Brenley Corner.
Motorists have reported the lights holding on red for several minutes then go green for a few seconds only, allowing very few cars through at a time on the coastbound stretch.
Engineers are reportedly working on a solution.
But the problem means there congestion was at one staged backed up to junction 5 (Sittingbourne) and the travel time is said to be around 30 minutes.
