Chatham Town FC's Danny Grant shares disappointment at leaving The Apprentice early

12:00, 05 October 2017

Chatham Town footballer Danny Grant was able to laugh at his performance on The Apprentice - despite getting fired on the first night.

Danny Grant faced Lord Sugar in the boardroom for just one episode in the 13 season of the BBC One show, which aired on Wednesday.

The 32-year-old volunteered himself as project manager in the first week, when teams were asked to make and sell their own burgers.

Despite the disappointing result, Danny was able to laugh at last night’s performance.

He told KentOnline's sister paper, the Medway Messenger: "I wanted to win it and it’s a real shame to go out so early.

“It was a brilliant experience and in actual fact getting to the final 18 and on to the show in the first place was an achievement in itself.

“It’s funny really, I had two rules going in: if something is offered that I’m good enough to do, I had to put myself on the line and do it.

“The second was don’t be project manager on the first week.

“I don’t regret volunteering myself but I do regret picking Charles as my sub team leader. He wasn’t up to the job.”

But when speaking of his other contestants, he was very complimentary.

He added: “They were really nice and very good. We’re going to be friends going forward.

“I did a radio interview this morning and I got several messages saying well done and good luck.

“I don’t think they‘ve had that on the show before.”

And while others shouted and cringed at the show, Danny gathered with family and friends to chuckle at his performance.

“It’s just funny watching yourself on TV,” he said. “I’ve never done anything like this before, it’s so different.

“There was a lot of laughter and they’ve been teasing me about it – some of my facial expressions were ridiculous.”
