Ice hockey stars to be out in force for Andy Martin memorial game
08:00, 30 April 2010
Invicta Dynamos will welcome back some familiar faces to pay tribute to long-time player and junior coach Andy Martin in a memorial game at the Gillingham Ice Bowl this weekend.
Current Mos players and former team-mates and opponents of Martin – who spent almost 20 years on the ice at Gillingham – will take part in the special event on Sunday, which gets under way at 5.15pm.
Scotland-born Martin moved south aged 19 to play for the then Medway Bears and became a firm favourite at the Ice Bowl with some dedicated performances before hanging up his skates in 2006.
He went on to coach some of the Dynamos’ junior sides but died in April 2009 aged just 40.
Among those taking part in the memorial game are Mos coach Kevin Parrish.
