Three men have been detained pending removed from the UK after Taj Cuisine in Chatham was raided by immigration officers

Three men have been detained pending removal from the UK and one man was escorted off the property after immigration officers raided an Indian restaurant.

Shocked diners stared in amazement as the incident unfolded in front of them.

Eyewitnesses reported people being "made to stand against the wall" after Home Office officials swooped on the Taj Cuisine, in Walderslade Road, Chatham, on Friday evening.

One witness said: "The officers were checking everywhere, they were looking at the menus and looking under the tables.

"All the people in the restaurant were hauled up and forced to stand against the wall."

Home Office spokesman Catherine Ellis said: " Three immigration offenders, all male and from Bangladesh, were arrested and detained as they had no right to remain in the UK.

"A final Bangladeshi man with no permission to work was escorted from the premises.

"He must report regularly to the Home Office as his immigration case in ongoing."
