An Indian restaurant has been banned from selling alcohol for three months.
The Shozna in Maidstone Road had its licence reviewed on the grounds of public safety and the prevention of crime and disorder.
Earlier this month, a committee from Medway Council made a decision on the licence in a meeting which excluded the press and public.
A decision was made decided to suspend the premises licence for three months.
The report reads: “The Panel determined that the premises licence be suspended for a period of three months to allow the licensee to reset the business and re-evaluate his procedures to ensure that the situation discussed at the hearing did not happen again and that the licensing objectives were met.”
The licence allows alcohol to be sold between noon and midnight from Sunday to Thursday and until 1am on Fridays and Saturdays.
Representatives from the police and Home Office were at the review and outlined the reasons for submitting the application. They were also asked questions by the panel.
The review follows a raid by immigration officers in July, when two Bangladeshi men working at the restaurant who had outstayed their visas. Officers also seized £6,000 in cash.
The owner of the Shozna is able to appeal the decision if he wishes to.
