Invicta Dynamos suffered the pain of losing Sunday’s English National League play-off final on a penalty shootout.
After beating Bracknell Bees 6-3 in Saturday’s semi-final, they drew 2-2 with Nottingham Lions in the final at the Coventry Sky Dome before losing 4-2 in the shootout.
Head coach Kevin Parrish said: “We can’t have any complaints. We all know that shootouts are a lottery and the previous weekend we won the National League final on a shootout.
“And, to be fair, Nottingham are a good young side but it was a close game which could have gone either way.”
Against Bracknell two goals from Martin Melichercik (pictured above), Eliott Andrews (2), Andy Smith and Grant Baxter carried Invicta home.
But Nottingham, who had beaten Sheffield in Saturday’s other semi, proved tougher opposition.
They led 2-1, with Melichercik scoring for the Mos, and then Smith levelled matters.
The final period failed to settle the outcome, due partly to some excellent saves by Mos netminder Joe White.
