Brad Watchorn, one of the toughest young bucks in English ice hockey, will be playing for the Invicta Dynamos next season.
Head coach Kevin Parrish announced this week that the 22-year-old utility player, who has a reputation of being ready to get involved in the rough stuff without a second invitation, agreed to move to Gillingham from the English Premier League’s Bracknell Bees.
Parrish (pictured) said: "Brad is a tough kid, there’s no doubt about that, and I think that is maybe something we have missed for the past couple of years – a little bit of toughness.
"He’s well known for throwing his gloves down and has got that little bit of a scare factor, but if you look at Brad’s stats you can see that he can play as well.
"Every year he’s played in the league he’s averaged a point a game."
Parrish is now focusing on strengthening Dynamos’ defence following their third-place finish in the ENIHL South Division 1.
"I think we probably need a couple of recognised D-men," he said. "In terms of scoring goals we were right up there last season, but we kept giving too many goals away."
Parrish has made offers to four defenders from other clubs, but insisted: "I won’t get involved in a bidding game. I make an offer that I think the club can afford and then I keep to it.
"I have also sent out offers of new contracts to most of the guys who were here last season. It’s up to them to decide what they are going to do."
