Junior Great Britain champion James Myatt grew up in High Halstow and trained in the Medway Towns – now he is hoping to qualify for the finals which will mark the official opening of the Medway Park facility.

Myatt will tackle swimming, fencing, riding, running and shooting in the multi-discipline event, which is recognised as one of the toughest Olympic sports.

"It would be amazing to compete in Medway," said the 19-year-old. "A lot of friends have never seen me compete. It’s a place where I’ve lived, grown up and trained and it would be good to be there."

Medway Park, the new name for Black Lion Leisure Centre in Gillingham, hosts the Modern Pentathlon World Cup finals between April 8 and 11 with between 20 and 30 nations heading to the Towns.

Myatt is currently competing in the selection events in Bath with the GB squad. He needs a top-eight finish to qualify but there are an additional two wildcard places up for grabs should he miss out on automatic selection.

There are three selection competitions. Round one saw Myatt finish ninth and the second round takes place this weekend.
