A jobs boost has been announced by a major builders merchant chain after revealing the opening date of its latest Kent branch.
The new Selco Builders Warehouse unit on the new £24 million industrial park on the Medway City Estate in Strood, is set to open on Monday, December 6.
More than 30 jobs have been created at the new branch on the M2CityLink park, which will also feature a Sainsbury's and Argos distribution warehouse.
The store is Selco's 72nd branch in the UK and the new roles will cover a range of different positions which are expected to employ residents from the Medway Towns.
Howard Luft, chief executive of Selco Builders Warehouse, said: “Rochester has been a target location for us for quite some time so we are thrilled we are going to make that a reality before Christmas.
“We are delighted with the site we have secured and it further strengthens our presence in the area alongside our branches in West Thurrock, Orpington and Crayford.
“Our recruitment policy has always been to employ people from the branch’s local community and that is continuing here.
“We want to give the people of Rochester and Kent genuine career opportunities and the chance to climb through the ranks at Selco.
“The branch will also provide a further boost to tradespeople in the area as they will have a greater chance to enjoy the benefits Selco provides – unrivalled availability, with the widest range of products in stock, as well as excellent customer service and trade pricing.”
The warehouse, off Anthony's Way, will be the company's third new branch to open this year.
