Two Medway singers went head to head in front of millions of viewers on hit talent show The Voice on Saturday night.
But it was MidKent College student Joe Apostol who made it through to the “live” shows after singing legend Sir Tom Jones booted off Chatham dad-of-two Adam Barron.
Both turned in impressive performances with Joe, 21, from Gillingham, winning a standing ovation from all four coaches - Sir Tom,will.i.am, Jessie J and Danny O’Donoghue - for his rendition of “A Song For You” by Donny Hathaway.
Adam, 27, close “Maybe I’m Amazed” by Paul McCartney and Wings after which Sir Tom told him an ideal voice for West End shows.
But it was Joe who went through.
Sir Tom said: “You have an incredible voice. That performance wasn’t your best, but it was still good enough.”
Departing Adam told the audience; “It’s been a dream. It’s been unbelievable working with the greats of the business.”
An emotional Joe said: “I’m really proud .”
All of the judges had to reduce the size of their teams from seven to three.
Further knockouts took place last night (Sunday).
