Medway songsmith Kid Harpoon is set to be crowned Songwriter of the Year in tomorrow's BRIT Awards, following his work on the GRAMMY award winning album Harry's House.
Originally from Chatham, and also known as Tom Hull, the producer and songwriter will receive the awards at a star-studded ceremony at the O2 Arena in London, alongside the likes of David Guetta, who will be named Producer of the Year.
Borth artists have been named as winners in advance of the ceremony, where other awards will be unveiled for Album of the Year, Artist of the Year, Best New Artist, and Song of the Year.
Kid Harpoon's win follows his work as co-writer and producer of Harry Styles' Harry’s House, which won Album of the Year at last weekend's GRAMMY awards, and is the third chart-topping Styles album to benefit from the Chatham man's talents.
While Kid Harpoon's star has risen alongside that of Styles, the Medway man's success comes on the back of a long career. Born in Chatham, he grew up in Rochester and attended Troy Town school and the Math School, before embarking on a career in music, starting out as a singer-songwriter in the pubs and clubs of Medway, before moving to London.
After continuing as a solo performer he launched a career as a co-writer which would bring him co-writing credits with the likes of Lizzo, Florence and The Machine, Miley Cyrus, Jessie Ware, Maggie Rogers, Mabel and Years & Years.
Harry’s House was the biggest and fastest selling UK album of 2022, not leaving the Top Ten since May of last year, while its lead single ‘As It Was’, co-written by Kid Harpoon, was the UK’s biggest selling single of 2022, achieving over 2 billion global streams to date.
Additionally, it picked up GRAMMY Award nominations for Song of the Year and Record of the Year.
Kid Harpoon said: “To be acknowledged by the BRITs this year for songwriting, a beautiful and complex craft, is unbelievable. It’s a dream come true to create for a living, I cannot wait to celebrate with everyone on Saturday.”
Other artists set to perform at this year's BRIT Awards ceremony, hosted by comedian Mo Gilligan, include Cat Burns, David Guetta & Becky Hill & Ella Henderson, Harry Styles, Lewis Capaldi, Lizzo, Sam Smith & Kim Petras, Stormzy and Wet Leg.
You can watch Kid Harpoon pick up his award on the BRIT Awards 2023: Red Carpet show on ITV2, while other winners will be revealed on the live show on ITV1 and ITVX.
