Medway songwriter, musician and producer Kid Harpoon has won a prestigious Ivor Novello award.

Originally from Chatham, Harpoon, aka Tom Hull, worked alongside Harry Styles, Amy Allen and Tyler Johnson to write Styles' hit Adore You - which won the gong for 'most performed work' at the awards ceremony in London yesterday.

Adore You was the second single from Styles' Grammy-nominated and UK double platinum-selling album Fine Line, and peaked at no 7, spending a total of 40 weeks in the official singles chart.

The win marks another step upwards in the career of Kid Harpoon, 39, who started out as a singer-songwriter performing in Medway venues before winning a record deal and embarking on a second career as a producer and songwriter working with other artists.

Other big winners at the awards - which celebrate the best in British songwriting - include Dave and Fraser T Smith who were awarded best contemporary song for Children of the Internet, and Lianne La Havas, whose self-titled third album was named best album.

Harpoon and Styles had also been nominated together in the Novello's songwriter of the year category, but the judges chose Celeste and Jamie Hartman.
