Fears of a large gathering of car enthusiasts that could lead to "dangerous and antisocial driving" has resulted in multiple dispersal orders being in place over the weekend.

They will operate from 6pm today until 6pm on Sunday and will cover the Medway City Estate, as well as parts of the Hoo Peninsula and Strood Retail Park.

A police spokesman said: "The orders are being implemented as a direct result of information received indicating there could be large gathering of car enthusiasts, which in the past have been resulted in dangerous and antisocial driving and behaviour."

Whilst in force, the orders allow officers to stop anyone involved in antisocial behaviour, move them on from the area and seize vehicles.

People who ignore instructions to leave can be arrested.

Anybody who wishes to report instances of antisocial behaviour can do it online via the Kent Police website.

Sgt Steve Holpin from the Medway Community Safety Unit said: "We will continue to act on information which suggests these gatherings as they can a disproportionate and negative impact on the local communities.

"Those who persistently cause a nuisance risk having their vehicles seized and being arrested."
